I tried a trick that I learned from a fine model thread of the CA38 at Ship Model Forum. I kept the kit covers, but built them up with white glue in about three coats, and teased it around a little each time. I thought it looked really good on my own cruiser.

Greetings:

Have you tried the kind of modeling clay that doesn't dry out? I used it on my 1/200 scale Yamato and it worked fine. You can easily shape it and it can also be painted. Barring that perhaps you could use some putty such as milliput?

I am not sure that tissue would work in that scale, if you use some really fine (thin) tissue it may.  If you decide to use that method here is my tutorial, hope it helps.

Help, Need tips to make canvas blast cover/bags for 1/350 Yamato main guns

I'm building Tamiya's Yamato in 350 and got some AM barrels for her main guns, Theory says I was supposed to remove original barrels, drill out blast bags and into main turret After trying that three times I figured without a drill press and vice there was no way I get them all the same, So I just mounted the barrels right to the turret, which leaves me the issue of, how to make canvas blast cover/bags? Would something liek milliput be best or tissue soaked in whiteglue? Help Please
