i already have an idea how to do that, i'll use some sheet styrene to make a form to suspend in the resin to displace it within the mold to reduce how much resin i'll end up using

Check out a starter kit from a place like MicroMark or the like.

This can be a handy way to get started in casting things, as the kit will have items that can be forgotten.

One thing I cannot tell you is a way to not have to fill the entire lower hull with resin--and most of that resin will be under-useful and expensive to boot.  Hopefully, someone with more exercised skill than mine will pipe up.

and yes, i do realize that epoxy and casting resin are similar in that they are both A+B mixes. i have used 60 minute epoxy before to cast small parts but i don't know how well it would work for a larger piece

i found a pre-finished kit of the Ohsumi by Skywave/Pit-Road and i'm wanting to make a mold of the lower hull so i can cast a few new ones to convert my Tamiya kits to full hull. what should i use to make the mold and what would be the best material to cast it in? would it be better to use casting resin or some type of epoxy?
