Fletcher Class rigging plan?
Posted by New Hampshire on Saturday, February 13, 2010 10:22 PM

Does anyone know where I can find a good reference plan for the rigging of Fletcher class destroyers?  Looking for origional WW2 outfitting, not later post war upgraded rigging.  I do have the "Warship Designs Histories" book on the Fletchers, and while there are a ton of excellet photos the general rigging most are from a far enough distance and hard to see that, when combined with all the different runs it is almost impossible for me to see where distinct lines go and even sometimes how many lines there are.

Also, does anyone know what the dimensions of their flag bags are?  I have the Tamiya kit which does not have these, so I will have to scratch them.  But I have no dimensions, and as a last resort I can probably use a set of calipers on the pictures to compare with other known sized pieces in the kit, but it would save me A LOT of work (and a lot of math which I suck at) if someone knows the dimensions off hand.

Thanks!

Best and most complete reference is the Fletcher-class plan eBook from the Floating Drydock.  Plans, photos, and scrap drawings of items to illustrate what the photos show.

Heh heh, yeah that about figures.  I had contemplated picking up this book instead of the other Fletcher book, but my fondness for paper vs. CDRom won out.  If only I had known.......oh well, you can never have to many refrences for a project, right? Big Smile

Thanks Ed.

Bob Steinbrunn, builder of the USS Kidd model which won top prize at the Mariner's Museum model contest as well as several other contests called the Floating Drydock Fletcher plan book his go-to reference when he was working on the model.  The model also appeared in FSM and several other ship modeling publications.

I have the hardcopy version from before Tom Walkowiak of FD started producing the CDRom version.   I also have the CD versions of the Sumner/Gearing DD,  Admirable-class AM,  the Buckley, and the Cannon DE.   While you can print them out,  they can also be examined closely on your  monitor or selected pages can be scaled and printed as necessary to show the details you want.

Went ahead and ordered it from Floating Drydock.  I just hope my skills are up to the challenge I am going to put myself through. Big Smile
