I did a bit more checking WRT your original post.     This is the YMW PE fret  (1:350 scale) for comparison.  check the 1994 copyright date - thats ancient stuff nowadays!

I guess the question which should have been asked before is "What scale?"   I assumed 1:350 for the  Perry since YMW doesn't work in smaller scales and their product line intersects with WEM on this subject

What scale/set/PE manufacturer are you comparing for the Ticonderoga which you mention in your original post.   I know that WEM does a smaller Tico set,  but who else were you looking at.

I traded a guy the hull parts of a  plastic short-hull for a YMW resin long hull.   Maybe I need to invest in a set of PE to go with.

For the Perry - go with the White Ensign.

Review & pix here http://www.steelnavy.com/WEM350Perry.htm

The YMW PE used to accompany their resin long-hull Perry (now discontinued).   Its not relief-etched as is the WEM.   The YMW will get you the deck-edge rails and helo netting that the WEM has.   The WEM has more useable extras.   The only things on the YMW set which are not on the WEM set are the lattice masts.  The trouple is they are too flat and 2-dimensional.   The kit ones look very good once they get scraped and sanded a bit and dressed with the WEM wave guides & cable runs

    Hey guys,

I've got a Perry and a Ticonderoga on the short list and I want to pick up some PE for them.  The Squadron catalog has PE sets for both, made by both White Ensign and Yankee Model Works.  What's the difference between these two brands, other than Yankee Model Works' is much more expensive?

  Thanks!

  Chris
