Scale 1/350 New Jersey
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, January 4, 2004 1:29 AM
I bought a Tamiya 1/350 New Jersey, the manual says the overall hull colour would need Lightgrey 3+ AND A Flat white, I decided to use my Testors Aztek A270 Airbrush which I purchased it on my recent trip to US, after using for 1 time the airbrush kind of damaged and it can no longer spray any paint! It made me fell pretty disappointed with american goods. anyway lacking $$$ to buy a new brush, can anyone suggest me is there any spray can paint that has the colour tone closest to what the maunal described of the hull as "overally light grey"??

Sounds to me you committed a cardinal sin of Airbrushing 101! (LOL) - Sorry mate!
Rule 1: When ever you combine paints, you should add a little thinner!
Rule 2: When ever you are going to airbrush paint, you must add extra thinner!
If you did the above (cos I don't want to sound like a fool if you did that) then I take it all back. If your airbrush had a mechanical problem, then that's a different story!

Tamiya Spray cans for Aircraft AS20(US Navy insignia white) & AS16(light grey) may help!

As for the airbrush, take it apart and clean in thinner. If you are using the pressure cans to spray with, as they are used they get cold and lose their force. What you should do is fabracate a holder (I used a coat hanger) for a deep kitchen pot. And use ROOM TEMP water in pan to keep can from freezing up. A word of warning Hot water will cause an EXPLOSION. You must use ROOM TEMP water. And change every so often (the water will get cold).

If your doing this as a Modern day version. The color is "Haze Gray" And the WW2 version would use various cammo colors. I get my correct shades from White Ensign Models in the UK. Their web site is: www.whiteensignmodels.com they ship world wide and are good people to do business with.
