BROOKLYN CLASS CLs---Trestle
Posted by CRUISERBUILDER on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 11:13 PM

I am building a Brooklyn Class CL in 1/96 and am looking for any information on the trestle area of the ship. It seems every Brooklyn had a different variation of the trestle by the end of the war, including what sat on top of it.. My Savannah is as she was in 1945, at the end of the war with the twin 5"/38 turrets. I have looked at every plan of the Brooklyn's, every cruiser reference book, every USN reference, every site on the web I know of and have seen, I think, every picture that exists of the Savannah but nothing shows the trestle area clearly. Some pics have this area covered with canvas thus hiding the structure of the trestle. I have located almost every builder's model of the Brooklyn's but pics from the 30's are of no help since this area of the ship ( as w/all the Brooklyn's) changed through out the war and was different from ship to ship. I will take any info on any of the Brooklyn's, in 1945, that show the trestle, especially the ships that converted to the twin 5"/38s. I will gladly accept any description or measurements of the trestle area. I hope there is an 'old salt' or a builder who has tackled this problem before and will be willing to share some information. Thanks.
