A Sturgeon class sub?
Posted by burner12 on Monday, March 29, 2010 8:45 PM

Does anybody know if any company makes a Sturgeon class sub in any scale? The ones you can build not the ones on those gold stands. My father was an officer on board one and has been trying to find one forever, with no luck. Any suggestions or offers?

Try the below link.... I'm not familiar with the outfit, but it appears they have a Sturgeon class in 1/350th.

From the photos at that site,  I'd say they are Yankee Modelworks kits.   YMW kits are resin,  brass,  and white metal.   Their sub kits are rather simple and good for a nervous resin noob.  The biggest challence may be removing the pour stub.    That is easily done by scoring along the bottom of the stub with the back of an Xacto a half dozen times on each side.  Then snap it off.   Finish with progressively finer grits of sandpaper.   Putty as necessary.

Other vendors such as Squadron & Freetime carry YMW kits.   Shop around for best price and shipping terms.

The Scale Shipyard has 1:96 th and 1:72 nd scale fiberglass hulls for the STURGEON class. The hulls include resin fittings like rudders, and dive planes.  Plans are included, but no prop.
