Gallery Models New USS Wasp

I suppose this is one advantage/disadvantage to 1/700, when you get a resin kit it may be a little pricer but, in general, it has everything you need as far as photoetch, etc. The only reason I stick with that scale is because of a serious lack of shelf space ... but my aging eyes also means I will probably not be buying any more 1/700 kits ...

IMO, it is a 100 - 150 dollar kit.      The aftermarket guys are already lining up to provide what is missing.

I build resin ships, so its not an expense thing.  I'll wait 6 months to a year before purchasing and see where the market price settles

 

I saw this kit on the local Hobby Lobby shelf for $250 yesterday. With the 40% off coupon, it fits the $150 kit catagory.

Yes, I saw that at HL too.    But it is a back burner item.

I'm heading out to the IPMS Nats tomorrow and have been putting together a shopping list:  Admiralty Models'  1:350 scale Romeo sub,  their 1:350 square-bridge Livermore conversion,  some PE from Tom's Modelworks,  the new Chanticleer from ISW,  something from L'Arsenal, ...

If I get it, it will be a last quarter purchase.   Then I'll still need to get the PE for it

This kit has Trumpeter written all over it. Whether Gallery is in with Trump or Gallery sub-contracted the work out to Trump, when you look at it you know they had their hands in it.

The aircraft are molded in clear with the typical detail found in Trumpeter's accessory 1/350 aircraft. The RofG kit is not different, just a re-boxing of the gallery kit.

I paid $169 with free shipping. I feel it was worth the money I paid. You want crazy money....look at Hasegawa and Fujimi 1/350 prices!

I would second diggerboi's observation that the prices for styrene ship kits seem to be approaching insane levels for some scales, i.e. 1/350, 1/72. Hey, I know it's made out of plastic, and plastic comes from oil, and oil is currently selling for a bazillion dollars a gallon, but still ...

I was thinking that the ROG Wasp wouldn't have the PE

The price you have says otherwise so I'll have to wait until the first wave of buyers subside and hope it drops.

I'm glad to see that modelers are beginning to analyze the prices of some of today's models - especially the ones from China. In my opinion, most of the Chinese kits - especially from Trumpeter - are way overpriced, especially when one considers how many mistakes and ommissions are part of their deal. Again, in my opinion, it's all part of the scheme of the Chinese to someday rule the world. They can't do it militarily so they're doing it economically, and soundly gouging us on models is part of that plan.

Thanks Stryker.  I knew RoG was releasing the same but I am not 100% sure if the two models are actually any different.  There is scuttlebutt on other forums that Gallery is a subsidiary of Academy and that RoG is just reboxing Gallery's kit under their own label.  When you look at part counts and the price of the RoG kit coming in at ~$275US, I don't see any difference with what Gallery is offering.

I still want one, but will wait for price to drop.......I hope!

Thanks for the feedback.  As much as I would love to have one of these in my collection, its just as Ed said.....it looks a lot cheaper than the sale price.  Unless the bottom comes way down on the price, I guess I will be waiting for someone else to pump one out.

Speaking of the $200+ kits, what is your take on the new Fujimi kits such as the IJN Kongo?

Even makes it look more questionable for the $250 tag. Are makers trying to alienate buyers/builders?
