To Santa and the locked thread.....
Posted by Big Jake on Thursday, April 29, 2010 10:05 PM

I do not know what abuse you took from the other thread, I had nothing but good things to say of your work. But wouldn't it serve the membership better to review you pictures in another photo hosting site?  Why post them to the FSM BB, it just slows it down.  And the comment of "Locking the thread" really does not let the membership feel confortable with reviewing your pictures.  We may see something we need lern about, such as a technique or color.

If I cannot post a question to your postings, I say take your model out of our sandbox and go else where. you're not being very frendly. MInd you I've like your work, it truly looks very good, perhaps better then mind even in some aspects.  But like all things IT'S JUST SOMEONE OPINION and they are like A**holes, everyboby got one.

Yeah, what Big Jake said. If you don't want anyone to say anything about your pictures, what's the point of posting them here?

Or maybe I'm missing something, and should just go back to watching the paint dry on the Lindbergh sub thread.

I am 99% sure I know who Santa is... it's a play on his white beard and has nothing to do with his disposition, I.e. jollyness. If it is indeed the same person, he threw his IPMS membership card in the Seattle club president's face a couple of years ago and stormed off because we had let non-plastic ship models compete and they had beat (I don't remember the particulars of who and what ships) his models. Our show judges on modeling basics and that was how they were rated, not by any favor to medium. He chose to get mad that he could not get those other models disqualified and claim the prizes he felt he deserved.

This year he brought a bunch of his sailing ships back in to the display-only section, where they were enjoyed by a bunch of people.

You stated you reloaded Photobucket and RePosted your pictures?  Where are they?  They are not in this thread, and your previous thread is still locked and all Photobucket links have been removed.  There is nothing in your posts except xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.  Without links, no one can see your pics.  I don't know what exactly got your bowels in an uproar, but from what is left of your original thread and what is in this thread, it seems fairly obvious you got your feelings hurt when you perceived the IPMS rule changes as now allowing unfair competition to your models.  I sincerely doubt any intention on the part of IPMS to make it tougher for you to compete.  From the wording of their rules they appear to be trying to attract more modelers to their shows by allowing a broader spectrum of materials.  From what I saw of your pictures, especially the Napoleon, you should have no problem competing with the best of the wooden models, since they are judging on the basis of clean and accurate builds.  With the economy the way it is these days I am not a bit surprised that IPMS is looking for new ways to attract more modelers to their shows, since it is the quantity of modelers (entrance fees) that pays for the shows.  More modelers = more money to IPMS for the trophies,  and more money for the vendors which usually means more vendors will keep showing up.   If their catagories are too restrictive pretty soon no one will come and they will stop having shows, period.  But to remove all your pictures from here and lock your thread sounds more like something a ten year old would do. "I am taking my toys and going home!"  I read many, many comments in here about how nice your models look, how clean, and accurate, etc... So obviously your pictures were popular.

Looks like the new thread is gone....I don't know whether Santa deleted it or whether it was another one of those 'disappearing' threads that seem to be very common these days, especially over in the Odds and Ends section.

I believe the other thread got removed by the moderators - for, in my opinion, good reason.  I happened to take a look at it just before it disappeared; it had gotten pretty ugly - and personal.

I would like to suggest, respectfully, that we let this particular matter drop.

this tread reminds me of a story.....this aussie was walking down a country road in scotland and saw a scotsman have "relations" with a sheep.  the aussie tipped his hat back, leaned on the fence and said, you know mate, in australia we sheer the sheep, the scot looked at him and yelled back, sheer them hell, find your own!

The original thread appears to still be here.  I found it on Page 4, renamed "palatics".  The pictures still seem to be gone though.  What a shame. Sad

I think there have been a total of four threads involving this unfortunate subject.  Two of them seem to be gone.  The ones remaining are this one and the one now labeled "Palatics."  (I'm not sure what that word means; maybe it was supposed to be "politics'?)  At any rate, though I don't claim the matter is any more my business than anybody else's, I suggest again that we just let it drop.
