Well, finished the CE today. And, nice weather out, so I got some pics (I definitely prefer available light (sunlight) for model photography).
This is the Revell of Germany kit, a fine kit. I used generic 1:700 PE railings and ladders from Tom's Modelworks, and hacked the containers to make some have uneven rows. Also, the kit contained decals only for the Hapag-Lloyd containers, so I made homemade inkjet decals for all the other containers (those NOT painted orange).

Great job Don. I have one in the stash as well and hope mine comes out 1/2 as good as yours do!

Damn Don,
That is truly beautiful.
That's really sharp, Don. Nice presentation, and those container stacks are well worth the effort!
That's a winner!
Out of curiosity, about how long is the model?
Great Model;
I have taken the liberty of sending the photos and the FSM link on to a friend who works for the Company.
I fly over a lot of container ships and the containers are a real mix of colours and companies.
Just like you randomly, blindfolded, stacked multi-coloured kid's building blocks.
I will try in the future ( am on leave at the moment ) to take some photos from the air and post them.
Cheers and "Well Done"

You have never been lost until you've been lost at Mach 3!
Super build, and very clean 'board room' presentation too!
thanks for posting the images

Wow ... just ... wow. Talk about setting the bar for the rest of us. Way to go, Don! But I have to wonder, did you somehow manage to get inside my head? Because that is how I pictured my Colombo Express when I get to it! Again, a great build and I really like what you did with the containers, and appreciated you taking the time to post the pics on how you varied the heights.
P.S. - for bondoman, in 1/700, this monster is almost 19-inches long!
P.P.S. - I just realized I am going to have to buy another giant display case for this one! Rats.
Very nice Don. That ship looks so much better with a variety of containers. You did a nice job of chopping them down. I really like the base. I'm anxious to get started on mine now!
Dave
Very nice work!
DON,although I don,t normally like this scale, you have convinced me!THEREFORE ,I hereby promise to get the kit and do my best on her.OKAY??? As I look at that hull I see the Rebirth of some cruise liners in my fleet also.Again,DON that is one finely done, realistic and well presented model. Tankerbuilder
Don - one last question on your fine build, as I ponder where to put my monster - how TALL is it?
Don,
Just wondering what color "red" did you use for the hull and deck?
mfsob Don - one last question on your fine build, as I ponder where to put my monster - how TALL is it?
It is 3.5 inches above the bottom of the hull. The base that comes with it is very thin and the hull sits in contact with the base. Mine is mounted on posts with a much thicker base, so it is a couple of inches higher.
The model is very long (between eighteen and nineteen inches) but beam and height are not much.
really nice job Don, best Colombo example I have seen so far. Great photography too. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful build, cheers
Beautiful job Don - well done
