As a matter of interest, here's one of the original Marx kits:  http://www.oldmodelkits.com/index.php .

Lindberg Armed Schooner 'Sandpiper'

I'm currently working on a Lindberg Jolly Roger  being built as an American frigate and I needed a companion vessel.

I picked up a Lindberg 'Sandpiper' off of ebay and am delighted with the kit - it's a beautiful little ship (except maybe for the sails molded to the masts & yards).

I've searched the forums a bit and found a little info on it but it apparently isn't that popular of a kit.  As a really beginner in my return to ships, I find it to be a great little starter kit.  I think I'll be putting the Jolly Roger aside for a bit & will build the 'Sandpiper' to help get back into the swing of things a bit.

Are there any online builds of the kit & is there anything I should be aware of?  It seems a straightforward kit but I was wondering if there were any problems to be aware of.

From my search I was able to find a bit of info on the ship.  I read that the scale was about a 1/144 and that seems about right to me.  I used a very scientific method to compare the Jolly Roger & Sandpiper scales - I used the cannons & they are just about the same - or close enough for me for what this build will be.

I'll be using some cannons from a spare Jolly Roger kit I bought for parts & may replace the masts as well - it depends on how the replacements will look I guess - (an expert I ain't). I plan on drilling the barrels on the cannons out and roping them into position and maybe a few other little tweeks to get it looking a bit better.

Any thoughts on this kit?

Thanks.
