Here are some handy refs, but deck view drawings are not always same period, so need to interpolate.
Warship Pictorial #9 Yorktown Class carriers
Sqdn US Aircraft carriers in Action #1
USS Enterprise CV-6 The Most Decorated Ship of WW2 by Steve Ewing
United States Fleet carriers of World War II by Richard Humble
U.S. Aircraft Carriers by Norman Friedman

I got drawings from a couple places.

A "google" on Enterprise CV-6 will yield some web info & etc ....

The Warship Pictorial book on Yorktown cl****** carriers would be your best bet. They cover all 3 ships of the cl******.

Actually that is a good question, Can anyone point to some good sources that show the differences in the Deck from the Trumpeter Hornet and early war Yorktown/Enterprise?
Also, Just FYI, I plan on ordering the model tomorrow! I am going to try and document the construction of this model as much a possible to get a somewhat beginners take on the state of the hobby

Jon

Kind of depends on where you are located (states, aust, far east, timbucktoo), as shipping cost vary greatly. Personally I got each of my 1/350 WW2 carriers (I have all 4) off of E-bay. Including shipping was cheaper than from most any place else. I think Steve's scale hobby ( www.scalehobby.com ) has a discount on shipping right now, and he's good people. I'd recomend start looking there. Only thing is he doesn't carry any P/E for it.

For crew you have several options. If you check with Gold Metal & White Ensign they have PE crew available in this scale. You can use things like glue and paint to "bulk" them up some since they are flat metal. New on the scene are 3D cast resin crew now available from L'Arsenal. What some people now do is mix them so the "flat" crew are placed in areas where the flatness of the figure is not as apearant. The figures out on deck where they can be viewed from multiple angles are the cast 3D figures. Check with the sites listed above for the PE figures while the resin figures can be ordered directly from L'Arsenal or they are also carried by White Ensign. .

Well, Browsing the net I found the model I'd most like to come close to on detail. This would be the ultimate for me to shoot for. Maybe in 10-30 years or so. Thanks for all the input guys. Next week I start ordering the main model itself and probably the conversion kit at the same time. The super detailing kits will have to follow next month. (maybe when that tax return gets here, along with the scale planes.

One more question (for now) and I promise I'll stop bugging you guys but what is the best source, in your opinion, for those little 1/350 scale sailors?

If you want the Nautilus resin (you do), then I recommend you go to the site given above, then email the owner James Corley direct. He responded immediately when all the "stores" that said they had it were on back-order for extended times. After an initial availability exchange, I ended up faxing my order Saturday evening, following up by email 'cause I forgot something on Sunday, and it was in mail 1st thing Monday.

WEM, GMM, Tom's all had their stuff & shipped immediately.

I have the same project, but I am then gonna rework it to the 1944 version. Right now all the stuff is in, but queued up behind other work.

Not a problem, that's what we're here for.

Kinda ironic that two of us answered your post with the same information at the same time...looks like it took me a little longer to write it though!

Thanks for the help guys! I knew I came to the right place for answers. I will Jake out these links but you have given me a great foundation in beginning this project. Now of course I may be pestering you over the course of the next year or two as I purchase the kits, assemble them and paint them.

Thanks Again.

Hi Jon,

You can convert the Trumpeter Hornet into an early war Enterprise by purchasing the Nautilus Models conversion kit.

Here's the link: http://www.steelnavy.com/Nautilus%20Yorktown-Enterprise%20Conversion.htm

I'd also consider one of the three PE sets available for it, from Tom's Modelworks, White Ensign, or Gold Medal Models. I have reviewed all three sets and all are very good. Those reviews can be seen in the review section of www.modelwarships.com

Question about 1/350 scale Yorktown class carriers
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, January 9, 2004 11:45 AM
Hi everyone, This is my first post to this forum so I thought I would throw out a couple of questions. I've been away from modeling for ten years or so but wanted to get back into it in a big way. I wanted to build a 1/350 scale USS Enterprise (CV-6). How convertable is the Trumpeter USS Hornet (CV-8)? Or does anyone know if they plan on releasing a Yorktown and Enterprise? The Trumpeter models are the first one's in that scale that are close to the amount I want to spend on such a project. Also what accessories from other companies do you suggest?

Jon
