1/700 B-24s ?
Posted by mfsob on Saturday, July 10, 2010 8:50 PM

I have a little project in mind that would require one 1/700 B-24 Liberator, preferably a D model. My first thought was that Trumpeter has made so many other 1/700 aircraft, but not this one.

I have rooted around in the older Pit Road and Skywave sets without any success, and thought since 1/700 is primarily a ship scale someone might have a lead.

The closest I can find is the L'Arsenal 1/700 Sunderland, which is not close at all. Sorry.

I have a small B-24 - not a D model tho.

I don't know the scale but I would think judging by the size, it's close to 1/700.  The wingspan is 70 MM / 2-3/4" and it's length is 46 MM / 1-26/32".

It's a toy that I got years ago - I think it was one of the Micro Mini toys or some such.

I don't think it's actually  true to scale being a toy but it might give you a good starting point for what you need anyway.

It's yours if you want it, just let me know.

I'll try to post some pics of it on my photobucket site - but I can't seem to post pics here yet for some reason.

Skywave did indeed do a 1/700 B-24 as an inclusion . This is the set that you want. http://cgi.ebay.com/Skywave-US-Navy-Submarine-Gato-Class-1-700-Scale-/180530432325

Free Time Hobbies offers a kit by Tamiya numbered 31903 that contains a US Gato class submarine, a Japanese sub chaser and a B-24 Lib in 1/700 scale.

Cost is $12.95 msrp and FTH price is $10.95.

FTH does not have any in stock at this time but if you contact them thay might be able to acquire one for you or you local hobby store may be able to special order the kit.

It is indeed a rebox of the Skywave kit.

You might want to try a search based on wargaming, too.  There are companies who supply small resin "kits" for aerial gamers.  I don't know if Pit Road and Skywave are among them, but I know I have seen such small scale models on sale at wargamers' shows like Historicon.

The Tamiya sub kit combination sounds good, too.  If you don't want to build the sub, you can always sell/donate/trade it.

Brad

Thanks to all of you for the leads - I missed the one Ebay auction, was out of town, but will pursue these other avenues.
