1/200 Trumpeter Arizona - ATTENTION: Read Again, New Info

Just noticed on Free Time Hobbies.  They are taking pre-orders for this model @ $199.00.  They are saying it is a November 2010 Release!

MegaHobby is showing a picture, I guess, of the box.  It shows many details of the model and states the model includes 1174 plastic parts and 3 sheets of photoetch.  Also included are 12 brass barrels, brass anchor chain, 4 brass gun shafts, and 4 brass propeller shafts.  ALL guns will swivel and elevate (the secondary battery guns look very detailed in the picture).  Two OS2Us are included and the catapults look like detailed plastic with some photoetch.  Hull is one piece.  Deck is 3 piece and includes top of hull, plus quarterdeck behind turret 4 and foredeck in front of turret 1.  Box claims hull and deck to be exact fit showing no seams.  Anchors even move like the originals.

MegaHobby is listing for $239.95.  Free Time Hobbies is actually $199.95.  Stevens International is showing this at MSRP $289.95 with the November Release date.

With the details MegaHobby is showing, this looks like it may be for real this year.  But....  Has anyone seen any Test Shots? Prototypes?  Any inside information?  The Trumpeter-China website only shows the CGI photo, same as Free Time Hobbies.  At $200 plus shipping, this could be worth it with all the extras already in the box.  It they are any good.

HEADS UP!  Over on RCGroups.com forum they show a picture of the Announcement (Post #9) from Trumpeter.  At the bottom of the announcement is the following, as is:

NOTE THAT THIS IS A ONE-TIME LIMITED PRODUCTION RUN, SO PLEASE ESTIMATE YOUR HOLIDAY AND POST HOLIDAY NEEDS!  QUANTITIES ARE 100% GUARANTEED FOR ORDERS PLACED BY AUGUST 15, 2010!

I don't know if this is just a marketing ploy to see how much real interest there is, or what.  But I think I will go ahead and reserve one just in case.  I wish I could afford more!  Even if this model is a larger version of their 1/350, it would be worth $200.  If they made any of the obvious corrections it will be well worth it!

So I'm guessing this will be the death spiral for Lindbergh's 1/144 Arizona? Not that I would have space for either one of these monsters ...

LOL, after they got roasted for the sloppy sample they tried to pass as an early prototype, I believe it was stillborn.  I think it was a knee-jerk reaction to try to one-up Trumpeter and they never had the wherewithall to actually do it.  Would have been nice to have an American company step up to the plate and do this ship right, but since the change in management at Lindberg, I doubt it will ever happen.

Honestly I hope this 1/200 scale Arizona would be better than the 1/426 scale Arizona and the 1/350 scale Arizona. The deck area was actually a improvement on the 1/350 scale Arizona over the 1/426 scale Revel kit. But the lower hull itself on the Trumpeter Arizona was a disappointment while the Revel kit had the better hull shape and fittings on the hull. So hopefully the new kit will be a mix of the Revell and Trumpeter kits.

According to Tracy White over on The Ship Model Forum, Stevens/Trumpeter is supposed to be bringing a Test Shot to the IPMS Nationals in Phoenix August 4 - 7.  Living in Tucson, I hope to be able to make it up there to see it.

Be nice if someone comes along behind with a cage mast option...

It would requre a completely new kit almost; When Arizona an Pensulvania switched from cage to tripod masts they were also blistered and the 5"/51 guns moved up a deck. The superstructure was also significantly increased in size and height.
