Some questons on Cutty Sark Lockers and pins.
Posted by Big Jake on Monday, July 26, 2010 7:12 PM

I was doing some referance work for a "surprise Cutty Sark" (About another two weeks, should do) a few pictures I found  gave rise to a few questions.  In the photo below, I noticed that the belaying are black/  Or could it be a really dark stain (ebony) and varnish.

In this picture they show the two smaller deck houses as a stained and varnished. I know one house (starboard side) was a head. Was the other another head or tool locker

The pins are steel, I believe.

In your dockside shot, on the quay to the right of the phone booth is a JC DeCaux public toilet unit. Kinda looks like the doghouse with the head, huh?

Nice pictures.

Hi Jake,

The belay pins are black in all the pictures I have. They are too thin to be wood. I suspect they were cast iron.

Both 'deck houses' were Heads.

Thanks,  I saw that picture too but could not down load for some reason. Any idea where they discharged to?  I don't think it was the prow area like most wooden ships, Was it "piped" toward the stern or flushed with water from the sea?

I also noticed in these good pictures that the scupper pump is molded incorrectly on the model?  Or was it changed over the years?

Jake,

Just to confirm - noticed this on Campbells 'General arrangement' plan.
