Any 1/350 FRAM Conversions?
Posted by ellevenbee on Thursday, July 29, 2010 9:33 PM

Just wondering if there is anything out there to update the Dragon 1/350 scale Gearing class DD to a mid-60's FRAM configuration?  Always liked those ships for some strange reason.

Regards,

John

HI Yes,I am going to do a FRAM of my old ship .She was the U.S.S. OZBOURN D.D.846.I am just waiting for my budget to quit screaming in agony because of some of the expenses I have incurred in keeping myself reasonably healthy. I will definitely use the kit for most everything except the FRAM parts.I already have the ASROC and helos for the conversion. I will try to post pics in the gallery when I start.I still haven,t figured out how to move them from a photosite to here. tankerbuilder

There are, apparently, too few modelers who want to model ships from the Viet Nam Era. Or, perhaps there are still too many modelers who want to model WW II.

Kits are produced, depending on "the market", so, as stated above, the  " market " is WW II, and not the Viet Nam Era.

With my economic status such as it is, my options are: Scratch build; Kitbash; or take up knitting.    I won't knit, I can't afford the "bigbucks" kits, so I guess my options are reduced to scratch build.    Kit manufacturers, I'm not the only modeler outside your "target audience", but keep up the good work, because as long as you do, the models I build will remain unique, and the kits you produce will remain " un-purchased by me ".

Lead me not into temptation ..................I can find it myself

I note that you are in Massachusetts.  Battleship Cove at all River has the USS Joseph P Kennedy Jr open for tours as well as the USS Massachusetts. I may be mistaken but I believe that the JPK is a FRAM I Gearing conversion. Check it out at

Enjoy the tour

Jack,

You are correct.  I plan on swinging by there, haven't been in about 10 years.  They also have a Soviet missile corvette that I really want to check out.

Regards,

John

Sometimes I get frustrated when my computer misses keys or sends a post 2 X's. I meant to say Fall River and I only meant to say it once. Oh well Isn't technology wonderful?
