Best 350th Aegis kit?
Posted by salvine on Thursday, August 12, 2010 12:37 AM

I am going to build the DDG-53 over the winter with the sons of one of the crew for a present for him. Any of the current kits a clear winner? Pretty sure I'll add and aftermarket PE set to it as well to jazz it up.

TIA, Steve

You want the Trumpeter Arleigh Burke kit in 1:350 scale.  Pair that with the dedicated PE from White Ensign Models.

Review & sprue shots on Hyperscale at  http://www.hyperscale.com/2009/reviews/maritime/trumpeter04523reviewbg_1.htm

You want the Burke kit,  other kits of the class have structural changes made as the class design progressed.

Your second choice option would be the Burke kit by Panda/Dragon.   This kit has its problems.   The hull is covered by "pimples" which are supposed to be the inhaul padeyes.  Sand them off.   The flight deck has raised lines to assist in decalling.   The original Panda decals were decidedly so-so.

Replacement hull numbers, deck marking decals, and DESRON/DESDIV decals are available from Hawk Graphics/Resin Shipyard.

EDIT:  Oops,  I got that confused.   Hull numbers are currently available from Hawk.

Deck markings & DESRON/DESDIV decals are an Iron Shipwright offering (they are designed & produced by Hawk.
