1/350 U.S.S. Enterprise Flight Deck
Posted by kenny_conklin on Sunday, January 11, 2004 11:16 AM
I am building the Tamiya Enterprise but the flight deck is giving me problems. there are two gaps left when i line up the middle portion of the deck. i was going to use squadron green putty to fill in the gaps then sand. But i am afriad of losing the detail on the deck. Has anyone had this problem? And, if so what isthe best way to get around it without losing detail. Thankyou all.

Kenny:
I just read a thread over on modelwarships.com that talked about this problem. The guy glued up his deck, then got a fine tooth model saw and cut down the seam line. He says he lost less than 1mm of deck and ended up with good joints and no detail loss.

Since I haven't tried this myself I would wander over to the other site and check it out.
Regards,
Bruce

Kenny,

On mine I glued the deck together as per the instructions. To preserve the detail, I very lightly drilled a depression in the deck where the raised tie down spots are located. So after filling and sanding the seam, the depressions will stil be visible. Once painted, you won't be able to tell the difference in the drilled spots and the raised spots. Other details such as landing lines etc shoudn't present much of a problem.
