Coast Guard Modeling
Posted by oceano75 on Thursday, August 19, 2010 8:12 PM

Attached is the new link to my updated and expanded (lots of people have been sending me subjects I overlooked the first time) database for anyone interested in building models of Coast Guard subjects,  I have lots of subjects still to add (especially early lighthouse tenders and inland buoy tenders).  Please stop by and enjoy.

Thanks

Frank

Thanks. I read the list.

The USCG used 4 stack DDs in CG colors inter-war?

Got pics?

Thanks for that site and the effort, Frank. One thing- can you change the blue-on-black. These old eyes can't read it at all.

Hi Felix,

Here is a link to the entire list of DDs used by the CG during the "Destroyer Decade".
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ship/dd-cg.htm

If you click on the top link on the right side "Coast Guard Destroyers"  you get a complete list of every DD used by CG during the period.

This link, http://www.uscg.mil/history/uscghist/Prohibition_Photo_Index.asp , takes you to the CG Historian's Rum War photo page.  If you look at the 4th and 5th pictures, you will see Paulding-Class DDs.  Note that we did not take the time and effort to repaint the boats.  We left them gray and added "CG" in front of their hull numbers.

Also. if you take the names of the individual DDs from the above list and look them up on the Historian's webcutters page (look on the "Links" page n my website) you can find pictures of each ship (if the Hstorian has pictures of them).

It should be noted that the DDs were hopelessly useless to the task at hand (chasing rum boats).  The CG used their poor performance to lobby Congress for some good new cutters (the 125s and 165s) to do the job.

Hope this helps!

Hi Bill,

A couple of people have complained about the color clash.  That will be my next update as soon as I find a better combination.

Thanks for the comments!

Frank
