Weathering a 1/350 US destroyer

What are the steps to weathering a 1/350 scale US destroyer?  This is a resin kit of a destroyer during the Korean Conflict.  There was an article in FineScale Modeler a few years back on weathering a navy ship but I cannot locate it in my collection.   Could someone help me with this?

Use an enamel wash to bring out the detail, then use pastel of brown and black to bring some rust and shadow to make it more realistic.

Correct me if I am wrong, but if painted in acriylics (Tamiya), spray on Future before the enamel wash.  I am getting close to the weathering stage of my Sovernmeny Destroyer

In addition to the washes mentioned, dry brushing brown/rust over the normal finish in high wear areas can create a rust patina.  Also, silver drybrush on certain parts that see a lot of wear, like capstans, chocks and such can simulate paint wearing through and letting base metal show.

One of the main areas for rust is dripping down from anchor hawse holes.

As far as too much wear/rust.  During wartime, especially in times of a lot of action, the ships get more weathered than in piece time.
