Will,

Thanks for the feedback on the kit quality.

John,

Thanks for the confirmation on the origins of the kit.  I thought this might be the case.

Cheers, Rick

Just to confirm, they are infact identical kits, excepting the decals and the plastic base's nameplate.

Incidently, it is a very nice kit. The only really very irritating error in my opinion is the inclusion of long guns for the spardeck intead of carronades. It's a dull job cutting about a number of these parts! Built out of the box the vessel is maybe over-gunned for a Portugese Frigate of that era anyway- a lot of her upper deck accomodation was divided up for carrying passengers.

This has come up a couple of times here in the Forum - but only briefly.  I don't think I could find the earlier posts either, and I've never seen any of the three kits in question "in the flesh."  But I recall pretty firmly (beware:  whenever  I start using phrases like "I recall" or "I seem to remember,"  take them with a grain of salt) that both the Zvezda and Revell kits are in fact reissues of the old Occidental one.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

Revell 1/200 Portuguese Frigate "D. Fernando II e Glória"

Hi All,

I searched and didn't see a discussion on this.  According to the Model Shipwrights website this is a new release from Revell Germany.  My question is this a reboxing of the previously discussed Zvedza Acheron?

From the previous discussion:  "... This is a reboxing of Occidental Replicas' (a defunct Portuguese company) 1/200 "Dom Fernando II e Gloria", a Portuguese 50 gunner from 1830s and now a museum ship in Lisbon. ..."

The link to the Revell site is:   here

Thanks in advance,

Rick
