1/350 scale D.E.kit

I just wanted to give a heads up on this kit. The kit is the TRUMPETER -- U.S.S.ENGLAND D.E. 635. I have always loved these little ships.I don,t know why , perhaps it goes back to a movie I saw when younger . The movie , The ENEMY BELOW with ROBERT MITCHUM(D.E.captain.) and KURT JURGENS(U- BOOTE commander). This little model really has the stuff! Even though I couldn,t find a place for all the parts on TOMS P.E. fret I still had to use G.M.M.,s generic bow rails(because of the sheer curve) This is one very fine little kit and leaves a lot to enjoy in the build . I even had to find places for some stokes litters on an already crowded ship. The depth charge racks in brass were a pain , but, they look good when done. The ship is very accurate in parts availability and history.By the way,the hull number is correct although no mention of her is in the big book put out defining the U.S. Fleet in WW2. The only complaint I could reasonably make was the 20 mm guns were to large. When the sights, wheel ,shields and shoulder rests were installed the guns wouldn,t fit where they were supposed to . I had to remove the shoulder rests to get them to fit ! Even without the extra parts they still look to large. The etched brass gun location flooring really made them stand out . Well that,s all and if you acquire one ,enjoy!!!    P.S. don,t forget , she was part of "the great blue fleet" so she,s blue !!!

USS England's claim to fame was that she sank 6 Japanese subs in the space of about a week, single-handedly taking out an IJN scouting line. At the time it was looked on as an amazing achievement--which of course it was. We now know, however, that USN code-breakers, reading Japanese radio traffic, knew pretty much where those subs were and guided her to them. Still, she had to find and sink them. England was later lost to a kamikaze attack.
