Forum, I am kitbashing and refitting the Revell Santa Maria, aka Anta Aria, as a new refitted ship with different sails and more cannons as per "voyage to Siam in 1530 and storm damage." The main sail seems too high but if I lower it you cannot see forward from the rear deck. Which way did they build them? Did the tillerman have to see forward from the aft deck or not? What did the tiller look like too? Thanks, Paul

Nice job on the Santa Maria. Years ago, I bought their Mayflower kit at a garage sale. When I got it home, I discovered it was missing the main deck. I contacted Revell USA and a lady there replied that the molds for the kit now resided with Revell of Germany. She sent my request for the missing deck to them and I had the deck in the mail about 2 weeks later. Revell has great customer service. I haven't put the ship together yet. I bought it because it was so inexpensive...only 2 bucks. Being a dyed in the wool armor nut, I doubt I will ever build it. When it comes to ships, I am more a WWII submarine enthusiast.

Cheers,

Big Ray in Ioway USA

Thank You, SirDrake. There are a lot of "little works" more to do with the model, but thats will be easeast part.

Thanks again, Bill. I have plans to imitate coulking lines between deck planks with pencil - You are reading my minds :-).

Again, beautifully done! One thing that I would recommend is that you either run a wash between the deck planks or darken them with pencil lines.

Thank You, Jerome.

Yes, i have sew the sails. And sewing was made with tense of one thread, to achieve sails "unduliation".

Beautiful work! The sails are very, very nice. Did you sew them? And the mode lis going to be a piece of art work when you are finished

I would love to find a copy of that book. I have all three of those Revell kits on the shelves . . . I recently found them in a Surplus Unlimited store for a dollar for the set.

Thank You, Bill.

Yes, painting was very time consuming, but rigging, cloth sails, pin rails - too.

I'm made rigging as for real ship of that time, using Xavier Pastors book "The Ships of Christopher Columbus - Santa Maria, Nina, Pinta", and different plans for Santa Maria - i.e. rigging is not simplified, as Revell's instructions for "advanced rigging", everything "works" as in real ship; to make realistic cloth sails was not easy work too.

Simply i want to build model as i can do best.

There are more to do with this model - work for month or two.

Thank You, Paul.

I'm working on it a little bit more than 1,5 year. Not every day, of course. And not every week, sometimes is not simple find free time for modeling.

As You can see, model is not the "simply model from the kit box", and that need's patience and time.
