Hobby Lobby Score!
Posted by Ray Marotta on Saturday, October 9, 2010 1:35 PM

I walked into the Hobby Lobby in Longmont Colorado this morning and sitting right inside the door was

a clearance table with a Trumpeter 1/350th USS Lexington for $57.00 and a Trumpeter 1/350th

USS North Carolina for $50.00.  Needless to say I walked out of there with both of them!

Now I'm looking for photo-etch and additional aircraft for the Lady Lex...

Update!  When I arrived home from work this afternoon there was a FEDEX package waiting for me.

It contained Gold Medal Models photo-etch sets for the North Carolina and the Lexington.  There was

also an Eduard set of 1/350th painted aircraft carrier deck crew.  Now I've got to get a very strong

magnifying glass so I don't go blind trying to assemble things like shoulder braces, sights, splinter

shields, and traverse locking wheels on 20mm Orelikon guns...Dozens of 'em.  I've never tried a photo-etch

project of this size before so wish me luck or "break a leg"...I've never posted photos here either so that's

another hill for me to climb I'm half way there with a good digital camera and a photo bucket account.

Good luck, I truly mean that.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

I just might do that!  Since my update, I've gotten 30 more aircraft for the Lex bringing my total

to 43.  Just over half of her normal airgroup.   These and the photo-etch will bring the parts count

to well over 1000.

I'm in the research stage now looking at placement of railings and deciding my assembly sequence while

finishing up the last bit of painting and decals on my 1/35th scale Leopold Railway Gun to clear my

workbench...

I can only speak for my local Hobby  Lobby whose plastic model section is devoted mostly to car models with a not too large selection of aircraft, armor, and ships.  The place is mostly "arts and crafts"

Based on your posting, I went to a Hobby Lobby in Muncie IN, and scored my own North Carolina.  Thanks for the tip.  Since then, saw 4 (!) in Evansville IN, but one is quite enough.

Thanks for the tip.
