Revell Stag Hound
Posted by warshipguy on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 10:37 AM

Hello!

I believe this has been discussed elsewhere, but can anyone offer insight into the Revell kit of the Stag Hound?  I don't believe that it is a simple rehash of the Flying Cloud, but I have heard it is close.  Online depictions of the real ship show something similar, but any points will be appreciated.

We have indeed discussed it a couple of times.  Here's one thread:  /forums/p/60737/612277.aspx#612277 .  And here's another - which veers into some pretty philosophical, if not exactly profound, waters: /forums/t/70879.aspx?PageIndex=1 .

Bottom line:  if you want to build a serious scale model of the Stag Hound, avoid the Revell kit.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

John,

Thanks for the links! They made for enjoyable reading. I thought as much regarding the Stag Hound.  As for your reference to the old Marx kit of the Sea Witch, Marx also used the kit to model a sister of Sea Witch (the name escapes me.)  If memory serves, it had a different, separately molded figurehead, that horrible printed steel deck, and no hull planking.
