I'm gathering AM stuff for a 1/350 scale battleship. What size (links per inch etc.) chain should I be looking for to replace molded on anchor chain?
Steve
Model railroad hobby shops, brand to look for is Campbell. They sell blackened chain in 46 LPI size which is just about right for 1:350 battleships, carriers and large cruisers. It begins to look a bit too large for destroyer-sized subjects. It is, IMO, too large for 1:700 sujects. For that check David Griffith's method of plaiting wire in his book "Building Ship Models from Kits".
Thanks for the info Ed, exactly what I needed to know.
You can also check out TotalNavy.com - they sell anchor chains in black or brass for 1/350 and 1/700. Prices are very reasonable!!

It does not make sense. They sell 21 links per inch for both 1:350 and 1:700 scale models. Is there a typo?
Can't answer your question about LPI. I just thought I would mention, the best source I've found for scale studded anchor chain is Cornwall Model Boats. Several sizes of studded chain available.
