Nice build.

Now that they have done a mid-life modernization to her, I am thinking about buying one of the old models and scratch building the modernization.

Same 32 VLS cell as their Type 054A FFG where the old eight cell missiles are.

Also, took out the 37mm guns on the hangers and added a Type 703 CIWS 6 barrell gatlin to each side. I can get most of that from sppares.

A nice upgrade actually that wil help keep her relevant with her 16 ASMs.

Anyhow, REALLY nice job on the buid you did of the original vessel.

I just looked at my pictures of the Shenzhen.  All of the railing appears to be three rail type.

That may life simpler. Do you mind to share some of these pictures. I have not been able to find Shenzhen picture that is close enough to count the railing bars.

Try:

Now, life gets complicated again. The 3-bars railing is so different. The lowest bar is barely off the floor. The one sold by Tom's Modelworks looks like this:

Jeffry

For brass railings look at L'Arsenal USA 1/200 scale - $17.00 + shipping.

For paper railings look at Drafmodel 1/200 scale on Ebay - $2.50 + shipping.

Hope this helps.

The info is extremely helpful and interesting.

Can also try china defence forum under naval session where they have a thread all about 167 shenzhen. They have some very good close up pictures of it which allows  you want to do some scratch build super detail of it.

Hello, Keilau

I have the WEM Sovremenny detail set 1/200 scale.  It is not suitable for the Shenzhen.  Other than railings and netting, almost none of the other material works with the Shenzhen.

There used to be some very cheap brass railing for 1:200 scale paper ship models. But I cannot find any supplier for those PE anymore.

Hello, Keilau

The railings and netting came from a Sovremenny 1/200 scale ship.  They were extras, the Sovremenny came with both White Ensign Models detail set and the standard Trumpeter brass set.  So I used the standard Trumpeter brass set on the Shenzhen.

The railings are not correct for a Chinese ship, but I used them anyway.

It is hard to find close up picture of the missile destroyer from China. Based on Russian ships, I believe the 4-bars railing is correct for the main desk. The 2-bars railing is good for mast and above bridge. I know that the 3-bars are used somewhere, but it is hard to decide. Harshman II's 1/350 model gave some pretty good example as starting point form me when I start building.

The Sovremenny PE set from WEM may work for the Shenzhen. But I don't feel like using a $50 PE on a $20 kit.

I just finished one of my Sovremenny ships.  It has the standard Trumpeter brass set.

I am currently building two other Sovremenny ships.  One will have the WEM set and the other one will have the standard Trumpeter set.

Hello

Bronco makes a nice 1/200 scale KA-28 Helicopter.  I just received one.   Cost about $12.00.  It's not yet done.

I have included pictures of my Shenzhen that I just finished.  The !/200 scale looks just like the 1/350 scale.  You will notice, I have the out of scale Helicopter also.  I'm going to add the Bronco helicopter when it is finished.

This is the 10th ship I have built in the last two years.

Many years to go, I hope.

Jeffry, nice built. I have one of this in my stack too. What did you use for the railing and net? Where did you get them?

Nice 167!  I thought nobody bothers about this warship. But its still possible to get the 1/200 version but 1/350 seems out of production and impossible to get.

Shenzhen comprises the one-ship Luhai Class and was commissioned in 1999 as the second generation of indigenously designed Chinese warships.

Trumpeter has a 1:200 scale kit of this ship. This article has some background on the ship.

Very nice, clean build. Say what you want about the Chinese, they can build 'em pretty. I agree with you, though, that Helix looks wayyyyy over scale, but what are you going to do?

I'm gonna live with it cos I'm not gonna spend any more money on this kit. Unless some kind guys gonna donate some after market 1/350 Ka-28 for me Stick out tongue

Harshman II,

Nice completion & clean build!

Is this a Soviet vessel? The name plate make me think German yet the helicopter sounds like a Russian name. Anyhow its good to have finished the project.

I think it is first indigenous modern DDG build by PLAN except the chopper is from Russian. Shenzhen is a name for a city in China. Anyway, thanks for viewing and compliment.

1/350 PLAN 167 Shenzhen DDG (Completed)

Took me one and half month to complete it. It was a kit bought from ebay 6 years ago for $13 bucks. Overall, a good detail kit from Trumpeter despite being an old kit. The only complaint I will raise up will be the Kalix-28 chopper which is far too big of the 1/350 scale. But  I am pleased it was finally build after keeping it for so long. Every thing OOB except some scratch build antenna and railing from Lionroar.
