Greetings,

Excellent model!  I've been looking at all the photos and like the added detail you included.  The upgrade on the life boat framing, bracing for the containers, antenna arays on the bridge, etc. are all excellent.  Thanks for sharing!

Those interested in photoetch for this model may want to take a look at KA Models 1/700 set MS-70013. I just received my set today.  It consists of railing, ladders, vents, doors, and propellers.  You can buy it at Lucky Models for about $16.  I have not seen it anywhere else either.  It's very well done and will give you an excellent start.  Funny thing is you can't find it listed on the KA Models web site.

Note to Wilber,

The GMM merchant ship set, if it's similar to their 1/600 set, won't do you much good for a modern containership.  It's more tailored to 20th century liners.

Hi Paul,

you are right, those railings is photo-etch.

the total cost of the photo etch & various detailing parts used on this model is roughly about...USD$130-150

Some update photo

Now I have to get this ship after seeing this build. The P/E makes the model. What P/E did you use?

I see GMM has a 700th scale  merchant ship set. I think I may have trouble with the small scale as after many years of ship P/E I had a very frustrating time with my last go on the SS US.

ant gluing tips for P/E rails in this scale?????

Beautiful job.

HI from Dallas,

Yesterday I sent you an e-mail regarding the model of the Colombo Express

with out boxes.  I was just checking to see if you received, my email

I would very much like to find out how to get the railing. First I would like to

know the price of the main Tower were the bridge is. Second I would

like to know the price of railings for the whole ship.

I think the right word for the railings is Photo-Etch

Thank you for helping me

Paul

Wow, Very nice job. The photo etch makes her look more like a ship.

Makes me want to go out to the shop and start mine, alas, there are other models to build first.

I think this is the web you mentioned.

http://www.fotoreisverhaal.net/containers/summary.html

From my observation of the photo, the CE carries mainly the following containers:

NYK logistics (dark blue), Hyundai (reddish orange), OOCL (lgiht grey), APL (blue), Capital (green), Triton (reddish brown), CAI (bright red),  MOL (grey), ZIM (reddish brown), and of course, hapag lloyd container.

One thing I notice, from the photo BEFORE 2006, there are P&O (blue) and P&O Nedlloyd (grey) containers carried on the CE. But from 2007 afterwards, I do not see them anymore.

MIC MIC

the container decals of OOCL & NYK logistics is the product of Gwylan models.

APL & Hyundai are self-print on ink jet decal paper.

There is a place on the web that shows the logos of all the container companies. Didn't save the URL, but found it by googling shipping containers and logo.  I made inkjet decals for my model by copying a bunch of the logos, resizing, and printing.

Thanks for your advice. I will leave the weathering process at the end after all containers are finished. Big Smile and I am thinking of making a few (maybe 2-3) tank containers on it.

The ship and (especially) the superstructure are superb! On the other hand, the containers are a bit too bright and shiny. You might want to weather them a bit. That many brand new containers in one place just is not going to happen.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

Finally, start working on the containers, which is a very pain. Because I try to make the containers look corrugated, so I use a scriber to make hundreds of lines on the containers !!! At this stage, only 5 blocks of containers been made, and only 1 block applied decals on it.

Enjoy  Big Smile
