Looks like you weren't finished with that Type VII C/41 in the first pic. Well the main deck and the deck on the conning tower and Wintergarten AA gun deck were made of wood and would have been stained in Teerfirnis stain to preserve the wood from prolonged submerging while under water and also acted as a non slip surface when the sub was on the surface. Life color does have a paint set made for U-boat models.

Great to see all these photos - thanks for posting.  I'm a new sub builder - mostly U-Boats.

Oooh, I can always appreciate a good sub model! Yes

Am I seeing right that one of those has a Japanese Seiran on it? Very cool. I got to see that thing when the Smithsonian was still restoring it.

Very nice work and collection!

A bit of Subs...

hi fellow modelers, its been a while since i'v posted here, i'v been working on subs for a while and here are some pictures of some subs i'v built.

i'v been building submarines for a long time and lately so many have been coming out that i cant buy them fast enough, i'm surprised at the detail of the newer kits, they are very good especially the new Chinese stuff.

Bronco models are making good models but the newest hobby boss 1\350 scalers are just amazing. there a lot of mold sharing between bronco and hobby boss so i'm guessing they are partnered, but hobby boss gives you more photo etch details.

i have almost every plastic sub kit in existince but i wish someone would make a the I-200 class sub which was the fastest full size sub of WWII, the Kairyu midget sub at about 1\35 and the Koyru (type D midget) sub also about 1\35, i know some resin kits of these exist but i'm not much of a fan of resin hopefully some day plastic kits will come out, but well we can dream can't we
