Calling all submariners!
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, January 16, 2004 5:32 AM
A friend of mine with a lot of money has just ordered an Engles kit of a Gato class sub. The modelled sub is SS212.
We have searched all my books but cannot match the pendant number to a name. Can anyone out there help?

As far as I know, it is also called Gato, which might cause some confusion.

It is referenced for example at http://floatingdrydock.com/Bu.htm, http://www.subnet.com/SHIPSTORE/buckle.htm, http://www.saundersinsignia.com/group157.html and http://www.subnet.com/fleet/ss212.htm
These are just a few sites returned by Google.

Greetings,

SS-212 was the USS Gato

As the first ship of the class all other ships built to the same specifcations are considered "Gato class" ships. So in this case the ship and the class are one in the same.
