Bismarck 1:350 Revell WIP
Posted by LeoMiranda on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 7:55 AM

Hi!
My name is Leo, I’m Brazilian, so my apologies for my horrible English.
I just started the assembly of my Bismarck and I would like to share the step by step.
Ships are not my favorite cup of tea, so any comments will be appreciated.

I will use wooden deck and PE set on my kit.

My first plan was to use the paint schema used in the ending of 1940, but the problem is that I would like to install all radars and the air planes, and according my books they appear only in 1941. So I think I will use the paint used in 1941 Operation "Rheinübung" . This one:

This is my second ship. In fact I just work with figures, resin figures. But a long time ago I assembled one ship (Frunze 1:700) and recently it suffered one accident (impossible to fix all damages) and I decided to do another one, but when I saw the Bismarck 1:350 I said “this is the kit”!!!! And here I am!

Well, I’m spending a lot of time bending the Photo etch. The sizes of the pieces are so small!!!
As I don’t have a bending tool (mine is coming) I built one using a circuit board plate using as reference a real bending tool. Very cheap and the most important, it works very well!
Here some examples.

First off, your English is better then you think. Second, this is an ambitous  project with all the PE. It should look amazing when done. Keep up the good work.

I have the same kit and PE, but I ordered the Big Ed and Tom's sets as well.  If your doing the break out period you may want the extra deck details and the depth charge racks from Big Ed as well.  Tom's has the depth charge end caps that both sets are missing.

I was thinking of using another wood deck on mine, would like to hear what your thoughts are about the one you have?

Thanks for posting very interesting Yes

First of all, your English is better than you believe it to be; secondly you are doing an outstanding job with a difficult kit, difficult photoetch, and a very nice wooden deck!  Please keep posting your efforts!

Thank you guys for the encouragement!
This is my first time with Photo etch and I had no idea how difficult is to bend small (so small) parts like this PE set from Lion Roar.
Revell did an amazing work on this kit!
Fell free to comment my work!
Best regards

That PE set looks amazing, I wish they had it when I built my old Banner kit a few years ago.  Great job on the decks too.

I went with the color scheme you chose not only because it was easier, but my build was for a school project and the swastica's were creating issues I didn't want to get involved with.

Scottrc, the PE set from Lion Roar is amazing!

I decided to use this schema because on the decal sheet don’t exist the swastika, and to paint it is a hard work…. and in all kits I saw on the web, when the modeler decided to paint and not to use a decal, the result was not good. To hand paint the swastika it’s a difficult job due the alignment, proportion, etc.

Sesmond, thank you for your interest! Congratulations for your purchase, you will not regret!

Well, here I am!

The PE set from Lion Roar has a lot of SMALL pieces and it's hard to work with so small details, but I am trying.

I'm working on the pieces below. I put one original picture to compare with the kit:

Dear god, those are small pieces.

And Dear god again! They make precut wooden decks, and tailored for each kit brand? I'm ready to throw out my 1/350 bismark deck i was cutting off the small parts of and thinning to place on a scratch made wooden deck for this!

Your so right! The pieces are tiny! I got the lionroar set about a week ago and have been working on it since although, despite their size they are easy enough to work (And this is the FIRST time I have ever used photo etch) with as long as you don't lose them (Which I have). I'm just glad I sprung for a fold 'n fold Big Smile

P.S I have just been wondering if you prime the photo etch with normal paint or not. Some people use "metal Primer" and I'm wondering if I should.

Cheers,

Steven

Sorry, I'm back!

Here more progress. I'm having problems with the PE schema and the Revell kit. If compared with the original ship there are different in both, but I'm trying to follow the original ship...

It was a hard working but the final result was very good!

First color on this kit, the boats. I'm following the Revell color indication.

 And here some PE glued:

Comments please!

Your doing a great job with the PE! I have to say that I spoke to soon when I said that working with the PE 'wasn't to hard'.............now I have gotten to some of the really small parts.

Anyway it looks great and keep up the good work,

Steve

BISMARCK model SWASTIKA
Posted by Punker on Saturday, August 27, 2011 1:26 AM

Well I was wondering what to do with the Swastika things that are always missing on scale models.. When I opened my Revell Bismarck, the flag did not have a Swastika and there was no decals for the decks. The thing is that I'm a perfectionist and I wanted to have the RIGHT look... I'm a graphic designer and have put my talent at work to create the missing decals :) Those are printed in high resolution on matte professional quality vinyl. I sell them in sets (one set consist of the Kriegsflag and the 2 deck's Swastika in 1/350 AND 1/700 scale). With one set, you can do 2 ships in different scales. I sell a set for about $10, plus minimal shipping fees. You can message me or email me if you are interested to professionally complete your Bismarck :) skatepunk00 its on hotmail.
