Ironclad ships of the American Civil War

I am curious if there are any instructions or video builds describing how to build and ironclad from the groundup?  I would like to build one from scratch but I cannot find any plans.  Is there anyone here that has built an ironclad from scratch?  I think that would be an interesting read and if the steps are clear enough, a great follow along build.  I checked the older post where they were talking about Flagship models but I am loking for plans or an instruction article showing how to scratchbuild one.  I think plastic looks to fake even though painted nicely and to see most of it build by hand would be cool to do.  If there are any other places were people are scratchbuilding models from wood or other materials please let me know.

I scratchbuilt a USS Cairo, and wrote it up for Ships in Scale, published in March/April 1988.  Back issue should be available from SiS.

Mr. David Meagher has a number of drawings and plans.  Look around and ask in the forums for his contact info.  He does not have a website, so you will have to make personal contact.   Model warships website has a complete section devoted to Ironclads.  You can look at other ship sites that also have lots of eye candy.

Meagher's plans are available from Taubmans Plan Service at Loyalhanna Dockyard

I used his plans to make a USS Osage of the Red River campaign.   Use the plan's line sheet (cross section and elevation)  to make a skeleton -- ribs and keel -- out of sheet styrene.   Then plank over them with more sheet stryrene.

That's ambitous. I'd have a tough enough finishing a kit myself. LOL
