Resurrecting Old BattleShip Models:BB62 and 63

I have two Revell/Ceji 1/350 Iowa class Battlewagons. The Missouri WW2 and New Jersey ca.1984. The Missouri's 40 Bofors could stand to be replaced with something better detailed. The Jersey is missing the  secondary guns,3 phalanx CIWS, and the SH-60's.  I know that Loren Perry helped with the conversion of Mighty Mo to modern New Jersey for Revell. Is it worth spending time/money to update these models? If so, can I replace the maingun turrets with resin replacements, new CIWS, DP 5" turrrets and Trumpeter SH-60's? GMM  PE to both Kits. I have these kits and would like to correct any out of scale items.  The Missouri was originally an Otaki kit that Revell reshot the molds. I know the Tamiya kits are nicer, but hate to trash 2 buildable kits.  Missouri in shakedown scheme and Jersey GulWar1.
