But definitely not until I've finished what I'm working on now!

Yes! It's old but with some TLC, improvisation and attention to detail, it can be quite impressive.

You could always model this too look like it did after exploding in the Deippe docks. Build it and take some fireworks to it,  just like when you were 10 years old.

I always enjoyed playing the old Avalon Hill solitaire board game "Raid of St. Nazaire".

Also, basic information on the vessel itself.

I wonder if she is molded as she was during the raid---if not, I'll pass...and I'll also call the model company a lying sack 'o $hit for the misleading box-art...

Pretty sure that was the first ship I built a millenium ago. Brings back memories to see it.

Has it been updated?

Nope,  not as the Campbeltown was expended at St Nazaire.   The kit is USN appearance at the time of the Lend-Lease destroyers for bases deal,    The kit was also released as the USS Ward

I have one started and I belive its as the box art suggests, set up for the raid. I'm not sure as to how she looked for it,but it does seem stripped down, compared to other ships.I'm gonna build it OTB for a monthly contest for March. So far the fit seems good I have the hull glued together and the deck glued also. I test fitted them together and that seemed real good. For the price I would buy it.Also this was my first ship kit so take my review at that lol.......

While I know it's waaay too late I only wish that somehow Revell had seen fit to do some otherwise desirable (for me at least) kits in either 1/350th or even 1/700th rather than what I'd call odd or boxscale as they did. I'd jump on a well priced four stacker in that case.

As Ed says, she is not in the raid configuration; the Royal Navy altered her appearance for the raid, Revell did not for the kit.

I guess I was wrong,it seemed kinda stripped down to me.Sorry for the misinformation. Still I think its a pretty good looking kit and seems simple enough to use as my first ship.

Not even close to the raid, and si senor on the stinkin bag aspect of the box art.

She was modified to resemble a Raubvogel torpedo boat.

by removing the third and fourth funnel, raking the tops of the first two and putting up various canvas screens to change the shape. Also she got a big number of 40mm guns to rake the seawall etc. as she raced in.

Being converted

Just before she blew up...

Manny, I've always wondered why you were available to pose for those pictures on the deck with Doenitz, but has to hurry away for that lunch date just before noon.

Ummmmmm...I had a dentist appointment I had to make...Whistling...Doenitz drove me...

She spent February undergoing modifications. These included removing her third and fourth funnels, and having the remaining two funnels raked, to simulate the structure & appearance of a German Möwe class destroyer. A 12-pounder gun was installed forward and eight 20mm Oerlikon guns were installed on the upper deck. Some extra armour was provided to protect the bridge structure and unnecessary stores and equipment were removed in order to lighten the destroyer.

An explosive charge consisting of 24 Mark VII depth charges containing a total of 4.5 tons of explosive amatol was fitted into steel tanks installed just behind the steel pillar that supported her most forward gun mount. The charges were to be detonated by multiple eight-hour time pencils connected together by cordtex, set before steaming out and cemented in to prevent any interference with the detonation.[3] HMS Campbeltown steamed from Devonport to Falmouth, Cornwall on 25 March to join the other ships that would take part in the operation. The crew, which would be evacuated with the commandos, was reduced to 75 men, under the command of Lieutenant-Commander Stephen "Sam" Beattie

Those MOJO's at Revell should have included optional parts for the raider version...I am calling for a boycott of their company until they make this right...BOYCOTT REVELL!!!
