Dragon/DML 1/350 Hull warning.
Posted by therriman on Monday, January 19, 2004 6:12 PM
I guess I should have said something before now on this. On the Dragon/DML 1/350 modern hull, the same hull is used for the Spruance, Kidd, and Tico's. They have the sonar dome all wrong. The dome has a solid bottom. With the rubber "window" wrapping 3/4's of the way around the front. They show the rubber "window" as being the bottom half of the dome and that's wrong.

I'm working on it. I never took one when my ship was in drydock, I was a little worried about security. So I have to find one in a book.

I have ref photos now, but can't get my scanner working with this new computer. However the link to photo's of the USS Cole being raised out of the water will show the sonar dome in the next to last pic.

excuse me for asking and please correct me if I'm wrong, but Dragon/DML only built the Spruance/Tico ships which share the exact same hull in real life. Where as Panda is the only manufacturer to release the Burkes, which has a different hull shape. But in saying this, would the Burkes sonar dome be the exact same size to the Spru/Tico's? (considering it may house the same sonar equipment)

Yes, All these ships use the SQS 53 sonar, the domes are the same for all of them. If I can get my scanner to talk to my computer I'll be in business.

OK, I finally got a scanner that I can use with my computer. Here are 2 photo's, the first one is of a Spruance class DD with the rubber "Window" removed and the Transducers removed. You can see the top and the bottom of the dome.

The second photo is of a complete dome. It's B&W but if you look closely you and see the seam of the "Window".

nice pics but they look pretty old - the dome looks a little fatter/rounder on the top where it attached to the hull and the hull doesnt narrow/sharpen as much before it hits the dome. it looks bigger too than on the models.
