Flight Deck - HMS / HMCS Warrior, circa 1946
Posted by Redshirt 5 on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 4:53 PM

Hey folks,

I'm currently building a 1:48 Seafire Mk XV in RCN service circa 1946.  It was assigned to HMCS (formerly HMS) Warrior, a Colossus class aircraft carrier.

I want to make a base representative of the Warrior's flight deck, but I'm having a heckuva time trying to determine what her flight deck would have looked like at the time (i.e. colour, construction materials, etc).

Other than a few vague B&W pics, the closest I've come so far is reading that she was fitted out to trial a  rubberized flight deck in 1948.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks.

The standard for British carriers in WWII was they had steel decks painted light haze grey.  What kind of tie downs etc, I don't know about but they had much fewer of them than our carriers which were wooden decked.  The British decks were smooth and monotone grey.2 cents

Thanks for the advice, guys.  More than enough info for a small base!

Tiedowns were individual in rows, recessed kind of like ahttp://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm150/6134rdm/396px-Crashonillustrious.jpgcircle with a bar across.
