Tugboats

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone out there could point me in the right direction for Tugboats. I usually build armor and have never built a ship. A friend of mine who builds and races RC boats asked me to paint and weather this Tugboat. I'm guessing it's 1/25th scale, judging from the tires that hang from the sides. Any tips for where to aquire referance material and pics would greatly be appreciated.

Throw 'tugboats' into google images.  You'll get a bunch of photo references.    Remember that tugs are working boats.    They are seldom in pristine condition.   Neither are they rustbuckets.   Pick a middle road approach.   Let 'less is more' be your mantra.

1:25 scale tugboats -- eeh,  not sure of that unless it is a specific R/C kit.     The Lindberg Diesel Tug seems to be popular among micro R/C.   It is HO (1:87) scale.     Revell's Harbor Tug -- Lucky is a bit smaller scale.   It isn't used by the micro R/C crowd as much.   IMAI makes a smaller (1:200 ?) scale modern tug with ducted props.   I think its been re-released under the Revell label.   Revell also re-released a larger ocean-going tug 'Smit Amsterdam' in 1:200 scale.   It is also a re-pop.   I don't happen to have the original manufacturer at hand.

Hey ED , the SMIT AMSTERDAM is a repop of the SMIT ROTTERDAM by HELLER .  They made minor changes and on either one the rails on the second deck and bridgedeck do touch the bulkheads . I had to widen mine a full 1/8 of an inch to get it to look right .  Other than that you certainly gave sound advice .        tankerbuilder
