ITALERI MAS 568 kit
Posted by alross2 on Sunday, February 20, 2011 11:53 AM

If you're in the process of, or about to start, assembling this fine kit, there are a couple of corrections you might want to incorporate into your model.  For some reason, ITALERI did not include the fuel compartment access hatch nor the two steps down to "officer country" in the pilot house.  I've been working with a modeler on another site who decided to include a lot of interior detail.  I have copies of the original Baglietto plans for this series, including the inboard plan and profile, so it wasn't difficult to come up with a lot of info.  If you'd like to follow this thread, go to:  http://www.modelshipwrights.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewtopic&topic_id=169007&page=1

If you'd like some additional reference material, check out your local library for either of Erminio Bagnasco's books on the subject:  I MAS E LE MOTOSILURANTI ITALIANE or MAS E MEZZI D'ASSALTO DI SUPERFICIE ITALIANI.  They're written in Italian, but are full of photos and drawings.

Or, ...

Modelers could wait until April 1, 2011, when they will see an English language book on the MAS boats come out.

Whereas I am quite sure that it won't meet Mr. Ross' standards, but then again, what does?  However, it is a well-researched, well-verified and well-written book on these craft.

Al,

Thanks for the link and the additional info!

Or, ... Senior Chief (my Grandfather and Father were both Senior Chiefs):

If you were to wait until April 1, 2011 - there will be an English  language book on the MAS boats coming out, in hardcover from Nimble Books.
