Hornet CV-8 Armament ?
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 6:10 PM
Can someone tell me what the exact armament of the Hornet was, and are there resin replacement parts available.

Specifically I'm wondering about the quad AA guns. Where these Quad Bofors? as L'Arsenal have resin kits of these, or were they something else ? I'm guessing they were something else.

I'm not an expert on Hornet, but she was sunk before the 40mm guns could be installed, so those are quad 1.1's. You would have to specify a specific period to be sure of accurate statement on .50 cal vs 20mm, etc, etc ...

Actually,

Now that I look at my references it does state that they were quad 1.1's.

So, does anybody know of anyone that does quad 1.1 aftermarket resin kits ?

I believe that L'Arsenal makes resin 1.1 quad mounts; you can check the link to their site on Modelwarships.com or Steelnavy.com.

I'm also building the Hornet now and those quad mounts just don't look very good to me, either. But after buying the photo-etch and the ship's airwing, there's no money in the budget for any more aftermarket partsDisapprove [V]

At what point in time do you want to model your Hornet? Doolittle Raid, Santa Cruz?

Let me know and I'll give you the specs on her weaponry.

Hornet carried 8x5in/38cal, 16x 1.1in., 32x20mm, and 24x .50 cal.

Her air group consisted of 16 B-25s, and 18 F4F, 32 SBD, and 15 TBD, all below decks
