Model of the USS Shanendoah (AD 26)

Does any of you ship builders know of a model of the USS Shanendoah AD 26 (the third one). There was one during the civil war, an airship named the Shanendoah, and two modern boats. Also, I'm looking for a decent USS Arizona, say 1/350 scale. The new model is too large, and the old revell model too small. I had a relative that is one of the 1177 men forever entombed in the USS Arizona and I would like to do a model for his grandson (my cousin).

When it comes to Arizona models you have opened up a can of worms.  I presume you are looking for the 1941 configuration. There are a few resin kits floating around in 350 but to be honest your best bet is to pick up the Banner 1/350 kit.  It suffers from a litany of faults, all more or less correctable, depending upon how deep you want to go or what your pain tolerance is.  The Eduard PE set is very nice and goes a long way to correcting a number of the kits faults, such as deck levels being split into two parts.  The unfortunate division of the deck into pieces with visible seams can be corrected with careful work with a putty like Apoxie  Sculpt and a scriber.

One of it's great virtues is that it is astonishingly cheap.  I see them all the time on eBay selling for $30-50.  The detail sets will cost you more than the kit by far.  It can be built into a great model.  Go to Modelwarships.com then click on the gallery section and search for 1/350 Arizona models.  One in particular to look at was built by Peter VanBuren who used the Banner kit or one of the other names it was sold under.   WS

Thank you very much. I'm an airplane modeler and when it comes to ships I am like a fish out of water.

I second Dreadnought's observations.  The Eduard set is very nice, but so too is the set by Gold Medal Models, with which you can also build the kit as USS Pennsylvania.  Good luck!

Nothing specific on the destroyer tender.   Loose Cannon makes a 1:700 scale Dixie AD -- but that is too early.

Your best bet may be to start with a Victory ship (again, Loose Cannon 1:700) and add the decking and accomodation/workshops scratchbuilt out of Evergreen.   No appropriate donor kits in 1:350.   In larger scales the Revell Montrose/Burleigh may be a starting point
