Battleship Finish

my knowledge of building battleship models isnt the best, but i was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. im building the Bismarck and dont know if the finish should be gloss or flat? or is it a mix of both? and any tips on how to replicate the Gun Blast Bgs on the turrets would be awesome. thanks in advance!
