Heller's Pamir hull build
Posted by Spelunko Bob on Saturday, April 2, 2011 12:56 AM

Model: Heller's Pamir at 1'150 scale. (Note, this model can really use detailing and the plans/instructions  are horrible)

Hull:

I have started working on adding plates to the hull. The plating on the ship ends at the water line which I did not like. As I received an addition hull from Heller ( the first ones were warped beyond repair) I have been practicing how I would go about this conversion and which methods might work.

For the extra plating I am using the styrene from the sails sheets. It is very thin and workable. I have marked the hull where each plate and plate line will be placed. I will be stepping the process by leaving a space(original hull) for one line of plates and then add the styrene on the next level and then back to the original hull.

For the use of the styrene,  I have traced the upper plate line curve on to paper and then transfer to the styrene. I will cut each plate a very tad bit shorter than actual length to get a recess between plates. For the original hull I will scribe a line.

The hard part of this is that I need to remove the raised plate dividers (creases as the should be) on the upper part of the hull. It seems best to carefully use an exacto knife for this and a light sanding from 1200 sandpaper. If there are other methods that may work better without the chance of damaging the hull, please advise.

I will post photos later.
