Painted Turret Tops in December '41

Sure looks like USS Oklahoma had them.  What color would they have been?

Turrets 1 and 2 were Insignia Red and turret 4 was True Blue. The only other option for turret 4 would have been white but that does'nt appear likely from the pics. Check out www.reasearcher@large.com  to verify. Tracy White has some other interesting things on his site that you may find of interest.

The turret top information is here. If you don't want to wade through all the documents hit the color chart (currently the 4th link).

Yes Tracy thank you and bless you so much for "nipping" this.  All we can do now is hope that the admins will remove this thread quickly.

I'm not looking for blessings... I just have posted resources for the purpose of answering those questions when they come up (as opposed to the old arguing that used to happen).

Therefore, I see no need to have this thread deleted... anyone who searches for  information here in the future will hopefully find this thread early in their search and answer their questions.

Thanks for the link as well. I am one model away from cracking into the 1/350 Hobby Boss version, have some PE and am just waiting for the Stilwell book to get reasonable.

Now if only Dragon sold a Vestal...

Iron Shipwright has a Vestal in Resin. I have one and the basic ship is OK.. small details are extremely "flash-y"

They also do a YT Hoga and a YG-17 is available from Battlefleet Models... both were in the harbor before and during the attack.

Thanks, T. I will look into that. We've discussed turret tops and seaplane markings. Were there other prominent features of the BB's that carried this marking system?

That is what I meant by my post, Tracy. None of us (that I know of) were actually there. All any of us can do is evaluate the information available and make our own best judgment. Ten pages of back-and-forth on pretty much any topic doesn't resolve anything, can frequently lead to misunderstandings and hurt feelings, and contributes little to the general knowledge base of the forum.

My 2 cents .

I'm not sure where I found this link for the arizona's color scheme including the turret tops but here it is.

Would Insignia Red FS 31136 be a good approximation of the red tops for the Arizona?  It looks pretty close.  If not, what color would? Thanks!!

I'm no expert.  I just do some research and go with what I learn.  Here's another site for colors that may be of help.

http://www.cybermodeler.com/resource6.shtml

Another site I can't seem to locate lets you find the equiv. colors in the different brands of paint.  If I find it I'll add it to this page.

My two bits- red is about the fastest fading paint there is, and a good coat of it on a huge flat piece of steel in the tropics would go pink pdq. If I'm not mistaken the equivalent aircraft tail color would have been insignia red, but i could well be wrong on that.

You might be thinking of Urban's charts at IPMS Stockholm. But be aware they are "best matches", but not right on.
