Welcome!

The Revell kit has a one-piece main deck which , to me, is superior toTamiya's three-piece.  Additionally, the Revell kit as lower hull penetrations found on the real ship whereas the Tamiya hull is bereft of these details.  The Revell kit also has bulkhead details missing from the Tamiya kit.  However, the Tamiya hull is a nice one-piece mold while the Revell kit has a two piece hull divided into port and starboard halves.

Good luck with your decision!

Well the Revell kit is 20+ years newer in molding technology. Both build up into beautiful kits but it's up to you as to is it worth ditching Tamiya for Revell. You already have the one. As far as PE goes, which set is matter of personal preference due to what they do or do not include. Compare each one on the makers website to see which best suit your needs.  Sorry I cant be more specific, but I am a firm believer in it being the hand and not the kit that makes the final difference. The kit is just the starting point. like you, I am new to ship modeling as an adult (built swarms of aircraft, armor and figures over nearly 30 years as an adult though), but am now starting to buy and build new and older kits and starting to experience my first use of PE on ships. It is great stuff!

i recently got tamiya's bismarck; how does it compare to the revell kit? is the revell kit a lot better, and, if so, how? i've never built a ship (well, apart from airfix one when i was 7 or 8!) and i've no idea about which etched brass to use- there are at least 3 sets and they aren't cheap so i'd rather get the right one first! i don't mind ditching the tam kit if the revell one's better- i got it at a bargain price. any help appreciated!
