I would look at Siara's build to get a just of what's what.

Yes it's 65 pages and total crazy detail but it also covers some of the basic stuff as well.

Thanks for the reply, El Taino. Nice sub! I just found a wealth of info at Accurate Model Parts forum- they have one for the VII series. Some incredible work, and tremendous detail- more than I am willing to do. I may just stick with the Eduard PE, but the compartment inserts would look amazing!

By the time I built mine, my AMS was in the early stages so I built it OOB. It makes a nice kit even without AM. I did however opened the pressure hulls. It is dark in there so nothing can be seen unless you check with a flashlight. If you want to be double sure, paint the inside with flat black.

I did opened the holes with an orbit sander sanding the inside of the hull. It is a lot faster than attempting it by hand but a word of caution; don't try to speed up the sanding process or the plastic will heat and get marred easily. It almost happened to me.

I'm not willing to pay secondary market for this kit, but as soon as it is reissued, I have to get another one Wink

Enjoy your built Rob.

Getting a Revell 1/72 VIIc U-Boat - some questions
Posted by maxfax on Monday, May 23, 2011 9:23 PM

Hello everyone!

I've never built a ship/sub, but thought it was about time I should start. I picked up a Revell 1/72 VIIc U-Boat off E-Bay- it is enroute. I have a number of questions to anyone who has built it. There are alot of AM kits. I ordered the Eduard PE set, but there are also 2  PE sets from White Ensign. I have found pics of the Eduard set on the model, but not the other two- is there much overlap and any benefit in getting one of the other PE sets? There is also the wooden deck. I believe the kit deck is solid, and the slots are not all the way through, but the wooden deck has completey drilled slots. If I went with the wooden deck, would I also need to fabricate the pressure hull, and would it even be visible through the slots on this scale? I believe the side vents(?) are also not completely open, and if opened, should the pressure hull structure normally be easily visible? Has anyone added the engine room/command room etc? I've added resin interiors to tanks, and they were a struggle at times. How well do these kits fit?

Lots of questions, I know, but I'm new to this branch of modelling.

Thanks!

Rob
