Well I did decide today to get some pics of the Chicago in natural sunlight because I'll be taking her sometime this week into the paintshop to glosscoat her prior to decaling.

of course I'll still need to install the four open VLS hatches before I do that.

When I dullcoat her what color should the interior of the missile bays look like since I want to show off the Tomohawk cruise  missiles (with wings closed) in the launch tubes?

Nice job! The recent pictures I've seen of the newer boats show camo on the masts and scopes.

However, I think Bill is correct about the red lower hull, unless it's been done away with.

I would not apply camo to the upper portion of the masts and antennae.  Although I am not sure about USS Chicago specifically, these were usually painted either a sea-green, left bare metal, or painted black.  These were painted sea-green on all of the six submarines on which I served.  Also, each of my six boats were painted flat red on the lower hull. Again, I don't know about Chicago specifically.  Otherwise, great job!

Not much but here is where I am at right now

here is a somewhat good look at the masts. The spots are hand painted NATO black.

Not sure if I am going to add camo to the upper portion of the masts or not.

And I should be ready to airbrush the prop with Model Master Brass metallizer. And I'll have to hand apply the flat black nonskid before I glosscoat the Chicago for Decal placement.

well here is the 3rd and final paint job which I am sticking with too bad I forgot to take pics of the other paint job. The paint is Tamiya Nato Black which does give you the look of a weathered black which I  suggest people to use when doing all black subs or even the Black upper hull and the Antifouling red delivery scheme.

Do these resin kits need to be washed? Model railroading resin kits need to be washed in order remove the mold release.

Resin?

This is the Dragon molding re-released by CyberHobby it is all plastic. Though I don't doubt that you should wash plastic kits too as there is oils on the kit from the molding process.

Well as that was the 1st attempt which I was trying to do the delivery colors of black and red (stupid me of course). 2nd attempt was Gunship gray looked pretty good but too light well I haven't posted the pics yet of the final color I went with and actually does look good which is Tamiya NATO black which looks like a weathered black to me which will work for Submarines.

Nice job! I just bought a Hobby Boss USS Virginia model and I hope I can do as good of a job. The instructions call for a blackish grey for the hull, but all of the SSN's I was on in the 70's had flat black hulls topside.

This is the CyberHobby boxing with the USS Maryland and USS Chicago I am currently building the Chicago. The LA Class SSN is 1/350 scale and includes parts to backdate it before its refit into a 688I and includes the parts to upgrade it to its current configuration with VLS tubes(This is the version I am building).
