For those of you who are also sleep-deprived fans of David Poyer's fictional naval officer Daniel V. Lenson, the thought of modeling the ships will have occurred a time or two. I know it has for me. Enough to start a tabulation of them all more than twice.
And each time, that tabulation gets just a hair more daunting, too--a really inclusive collection would want a CBG and two different MAU--not the sort of thing to dash out and start buying 1/350 kits.
There would be some difficult to find subjects, too, like North Korean infiltration subs, and South Korean gun boats.
But, even as the barrier abound, there are also opportunities, too. In all fairness, the collection would really want a mountain bike and a 90's Ford Escort; along with a RHIB, a RECON team and SEAL team, and some helos--one would not have to 'burn out' on ships alone.
The diorama possibilities abound, too--Dan Lenson's ships often are worse for wear. His first destroyer is run over by an aircraft carrier. Another ship suffers for being far too close to the detonation of fissile explosives (O my, the counter-shading needed to depict flash-burnt paint). There's a USN destroyer painted black but for the silhouette of an Iranian patrol boat. Even better, there's a Knox class frigate 'gone pirate' and rigged as a Q-Ship. Even a reason to build a half-swamped boat with a pregnant woman aboard.
If there's any interest, I can post what I have collected of this data so far.
