1/350 Titanic Build log
Posted by sheetz on Thursday, July 14, 2011 3:18 AM

I finally got the kit and some supplies, I got started and have made some good progress the ships coming out beautiful I think. I started by drilling out the portholes that took about 2 nights. After those were drilled out I put on the rudder and other pieces of the hull. I painted the hull red and black as the instructions indicated. I put the white on the top of the ship and am now masking off to spray on the yellow stripe tomorrow. Tonight I bought the lighting source so that will be put in soon. I still need to find a yellow film to cover the white fluorescent light and make it shine yellow. I found clear but thats of no use. I plan to paint the underside of the decks and hull interior silver to prevent light leakage. Heres some photos of my progress so far. Thoughts or opinions would be great. I'll keep the updates coming.

I finished the yellow line today. The yellow stripe was more difficult than I thought it kept leaking, I never have that problem but finally I got it to preform the way I wanted and it looks good I think. I started to paint the decks with a wood marker but its not really what I want as far as the look goes. I might paint or actually plank the deck but Im not sure yet. Anyways heres the yellow line I added today Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Looking really good. How many port holes did you end up having to drill?

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

sheetz- paint and portholes look good. I'll be eagerly watching as I've also got this kit in the stash.

You might consider going back and filling the dill holes with white glue to "glass" them in, tip of a dental pick ot tooth pick will work.  Tanks about the same time as drill them but not as hard.  I've done at least 30 of these since the movie came out for customers.

I'm finishing my Titanic (1 / 400)
I see that shade of red you chose to paint the hull below the water line is apparently the same as I used "you are copying?"
I'm waiting to see the light, because it is complicated, distribution and light toning to geta realistic presentation
I wish a good job

Hello again everyone Ive been battling with how I want the decks for a while now and have finally gotten a color I like. First I tried the wood pen on them It wasn't working the way I liked so I painted on an Ivory color because the decks from what Ive read where really light. I hated the color and searched for good size small scale lumber in town to plank the decks. between 3 hobby shops I couldn't find what I wanted or likes so I found a sand color I like. Its a little more glossy that I want so I plan on spraying a dullcoat on before I glue them down. I will also hit the anti fouling red on the hull with the dullcoat as well because it seems a bit glossy and I want to do a scale effect. When I get that done tomorrow I will post pics.

Heres the decks Ive been working on. Ive painted some of the walls as well but have yet to glue them down because I need to glue in the clear pieces of plastic for the windows I got from the craft store.

If you're going to light this model, make sure you paint the inside in several coats of flat black.  I didn't do this on a lighted 1/700th model I put together for my daughter 14 years ago and I regret it to this day.  Looks like your build is coming along great, keep us posted.

Looks great!  I just purchased the Minicraft RMS Titanic 1/350 scale and have been doing research on the paint colors. Great info on www.titanic-model.com. Thanks for the photos, look forward to seeing the progress.
