Trafalgar class sub 5th torpedo tube location?
Posted by dirkpitt77 on Thursday, July 21, 2011 1:29 AM

So, I'm working on Airfix's 1/350 Trafalgar class sub.  Doing a little reading up on its technical specs, I learn it has five torpedo tubes.  Well, the doors for four are plainly obvious on each side of the model, but I see no obvious spot for the location of the 5th tube.  Anybody got any hints?   I was just curious where it is, is all.

Nevermind, think I found it.  Must be the hole on the very bottom centerline, near the bow, in line with the other tubes.  Hmm.

Well, I learned something from it. No harm done.

Y'know, I'm trying to picture if there is any simplicity in the reload gear for 2 then 1 then 2.

All I can guess is that there is something else in the bow that is more important than a sixth tube.

What are you referring to as a "hull plug"?

No idea, not my diagram. But, the British one seemed to fit with the previous comments. What IS a hull plug? It sounds like something like a modification (?)

I think the original creator of that diagram was thinking that the VLS launchers were added with a plug inserted into the hull - the essentially cut the hull, separate it, and put a plug in between. This has been done with the spy subs like Parche and Carter but wasn't done on the LA boats that had the VLS  tubes.
