In my quest to build as many of the ships named Enterprise I am now to the point where I need to consider the VSS Enterprise by Virgin. No scale model yet that I know about. I hope soon. But my post is on another topic idea.
What about ship prior to CV-6?
eg:
etc. Are there any kits out there that can be converted the above ships? Just a thought.
Has anyone else gone for the topic the enterprise for building scale models.

Current build: Heller's Pamir. Oooooh Yeeehhh.
I seem to remember a kit of a vessel from about 1800, but do not remember whether it was sloop or schooner. Anyway, it was a wood kit, don't remember if it was a plank on or solid hull. This was at leastr forty years ago, so I sure cannot find anything about it, or remember much. Only reason I even remember it was something about the history of the name when the Star Trek series featured the name. Had thought back then that a display of a model of the SF kit with one or two ship kits would be neat.
If one could find model ship catalogs from the era or model ship mags from the era it might be possible to find it.

Well, this is a start and hopefully we can create a list of kits available or that can realistically be converted. Yes, I think this pretty cool for a display theme.

That is ringing a bell- I am sure that is the kit I was thinking of.
There have been seven US Navy ships bearing the name "Enterprise".
1775 - 1777 Sloop of War (Former HMS George)
1776 -1777 Schooner
1779 - 1823 Schooner
1831 - 1844 Schooner
1877 - 1909 Sloop of War
1936 -1958 Aircraft Carrier (CV-6)
1961 - Present Aircraft Carrier (CVN-65)
Also many British ships carried the name as well as a French ship (L'Enterprise)
This is a mighty big project.
Best of luck...

There is a starting point for the 1877-1909 sloop of war. The Lindberg U.S.S. Aliance Apprentice Training Ship was one of the three other ships of the same class as the Enterprise. The armament is all wrong, but at least it gives a place to start.

Thanks gents. Lets keep these ideas and/or information coming. Perhaps others may want to pursue this same endeavor.
As I am about to get started on my first wooden kit, I am not apposed to wooden kits that may be available also.
Question: is anyone planning on making a model of Virgins vss Enterprise?
I know that Model Expo has a kit of one of the Enterprises. Polar lights also makes a very nice and big kit of the NCC 1701-A version. I always thought that the CVN-65 and the NCC 1701-A ships next to each other would be neat since we can verify the scale of each one. If the box is any indicator, the 1701-A Enterprise by Polar Lights is pretty big and shows how big the ship would be in life.
Good luck on your enterprising venture. I hope all your enterprises are successful. Here in Richmond there is a company called M&P's Enterprises; maybe they can help...OK, OK, I'm stopping now.
